As the earth awakens from winter’s slumber, the Spring Equinox arrives as a powerful threshold between darkness and light, death and rebirth. Occurring when day and night are in perfect balance, this sacred time invites us to restore equilibrium within ourselves, align with nature’s rhythms, and plant seeds of positive intention for the months ahead.
What is the Spring Equinox?
Throughout history, Indigenous peoples have honored the Spring Equinox with sacred
ceremonies and ritualistic gatherings. The Maya of Central America built pyramids such as El
Castillo at Chichén Itzá, where on the equinox, the sun creates a shadow resembling a serpent
slithering down the temple steps - symbolizing renewal and transformation. Years ago, my
husband visited this megalithic structure and reported feeling a subtle but refreshing energy in its
presence. Many Native American tribes, such as the Lakota, Cherokee, and Zuni, held seasonal
ceremonies marking the equinox to give thanks for the return of life, planting crops, and seeking
spiritual balance.
The Spring Equinox, also known as Ostara, marks the astronomical beginning of spring in the
Northern Hemisphere. On this day, usually around March 20th or 21st, the sun crosses the
celestial equator, creating equal hours of daylight and darkness. Ancient civilizations honored
this pivotal day as a time of fertility, renewal, and celebration of life’s return.
In the words of shamanic teacher Sandra Ingerman, “Nature shows us how to cycle with life,
embracing times of deep rest and times of new beginnings. By aligning ourselves with the
changing seasons, we open to nature’s wisdom and allow ourselves to transform.” The equinox
reminds us that just as the earth experiences cycles, so do we. It is a time to shed the remnants of
winter and step fully into a springtime of growth, creativity, and new possibilities.
How the Equinox Supports Personal Growth
Spring is a time of expansion, clarity, and manifestation. Just as flowers push through the soil
toward the sun, we, too, are called to rise and stretch toward our highest potential. The energy of
the equinox can help us:
Release the old: Let go of limiting beliefs, habits, or emotions that no longer serve you.
Find balance: Create harmony between work and rest, giving and receiving, doing and
being.
Set intentions: Like planting seeds in fertile soil, this is a powerful time to focus on new
goals and desires for growth and renewal.
Connect with nature: Deepen your relationship with the natural world and the ancient
wisdom it offers.
Join us for a Spring Equinox Event hosted by Lynn, where we will honor this time of renewal together. Step into this new season with clarity, intention, and connection.
May your journey into spring be one of blossoming joy and abundant blessings!
