Coyotes’ Laughing Spirit

ree

Last night, as the moon hung low and bright, the coyotes began their chorus, from right outside my bedroom window. Their howls rose and fell like waves, wild and knowing — a language older than time itself. I paused, listening. It wasn’t just sound; it was definitely loud and eerie, yet it was spirit speaking.

In that echoing laughter of the desert, I heard Coyote, the trickster, stirring. He reminded me not to take life too seriously. To play. To fall, to rise, to grin at my own stumbles. Because sometimes the medicine isn’t in perfection — it’s in the laughter that follows our mistakes.  I had to laugh at the synchronicity, and calm my own startle, as it woke me from sleep.

I smiled into the night, letting that sacred mischief move through me. Spirit was talking — and this time, it was laughing too.

As the leaves begin to tumble and the air shifts toward mystery, Coyote’s spirit invites us to remember the child within us— the one who dances through crunching leaves, who believes in magic, and who laughs freely under the harvest moon. With Halloween approaching, may we let ourselves play again, to be curious, to delight in the unknown, and to listen for Spirit whispering between the veils.
